Jimbo Fisher praises standout WR for being ‘selfless’ in Week 1 win over New Mexico

Jimbo Fisher held a lot of praise for standout wide receiver Ainias Smith during Monday afternoon’s weekly press conference. But not quite for the reason you’d think.
Fisher loved Smith’s selflessness Saturday night against the New Mexico Lobos. The veteran A&M WR totaled 3 receptions for 40 yards, but that’s all he needed to do for Smith. After all, the Aggies’ top receiver finishing 3rd in total yardage is definitely a good thing to see early in the season.
And Fisher said that Smith will get his. That’s coming. But he also pointed out that things that don’t show up on the stat sheet are sometimes just as important.
Whether it be throwing a key block or making that extra hustle play, Smith did that Saturday.
Jimbo Fisher: “The guy who was very unselfish in that game was Ainias (Smith).”
“If he gets his, he gets it, but he does a great job of being selfless.”

Jimbo Fisher mentioned WR Ainias Smith again, saying he was a selfless player Saturday.
Said he was key in blocking and some of the things that don’t wind up on the stat sheet that helped open up some of the Aggies’ other wide outs.

Texas A&M has one of the better receiving corps in the SEC this year. Smith is flanked by Evan Stewart and Noah Thomas, both of whom hauled in multiple touchdown receptions against New Mexico.
We’ll see what that talent can do Saturday when Texas A&M takes on Miami at 3:30 on ABC.
