Texas A&M’s fall camp got underway Thursday afternoon, and the Aggies embark on a big Year 2 under Jimbo Fisher.
Fisher met with the media following the first day of camp, and he praised the Aggies newcomers.
“The true freshman group impressed me probably as much as anybody out there today, especially the first day with the tempo of practice and how things went. They seemed to fit right in and take reps. That whole group — I thought they all did a really nice job.”
Texas A&M signed the nation’s No. 4 ranked class behind only Alabama, Georgia and Texas for the class of 2019. So, this group is very deep (27 signees) and very talented.
Fisher was asked specifically about 4-star true freshman DB Elijah Blades (Pasadena, Ca.). At 6-2, 185-pounds, Blades has ideal size to become an elite corner.
“Seemed to flash out there a couple times when I saw him over there and saw him on some one-on-ones,” Fisher said about Blades. “You see his movement skills, and the talent is there. We’ll look at the film and see how his assignments are coming, but you see he’s a very talented guy.”
Fisher was also asked to comment on 5-star freshman DL Demarvin Leal (Converse, Tx). Leal was ranked as the nation’s No. 16 overall prospect for the class of 2019.
“Really good. Again, I’m anxious to see the film and all the drills he did, but you saw movement skills,” Fisher said of Leal. “A couple times you saw a guy flash.”
Again, we won’t know how well this class pans out for a couple years, but several freshmen should have an impact this year.
