Joel Klatt: Texas vs. Texas A&M in SEC title game might be ‘most likely scenario’
Joel Klatt has been impressed with both Texas and Texas A&M so far in 2024.
The No. 1 Longhorns are 5-0 overall and 1-0 in the conference. Meanwhile, the No. 15 Aggies are 5-1 overall and 3-0 in SEC play. The Aggies are the only SEC team to already have 3 conference wins.
Klatt believes that the state of Texas could be well represented in the SEC Championship Game. The analyst went so far as to say a Texas-Texas A&M matchup in the SEC title game is “almost the most likely scenario” on his podcast this week.
“Could Texas A&M and Texas face off in back-to-back weeks?” Klatt pondered. “The last game of the season and then again in the SEC Championship? Doesn’t that sound crazy right now? But guess what? It’s almost the most likely scenario.”

Klatt pointed to A&M’s seemingly easy remaining schedule as a reason to believe in the team’s title game chances. The Aggies play Mississippi State, LSU, South Carolina, New Mexico State, Auburn, and Texas to conclude the regular season.
“They’re already 3-0 in SEC play,” Klatt said of the Aggies. “If they can get by the Tigers (LSU), then all of a sudden they get to the Texas game with only 1 loss and they would be undefeated in SEC play.”
The analyst also noted that A&M wouldn’t even need to beat Texas to end the regular season to land in the SEC title game if they take care of the rest of their opponents.
Texas, meanwhile, still has to face No. 18 Oklahoma and No. 5 Georgia before the A&M game.
The Longhorns are -225 to make the title game at DraftKings. After knocking off Missouri in blowout fashion, A&M is the next most likely SEC Championship Game participant, with +130 odds.
