The season couldn’t have gotten off to a worse start for coach Kevin Sumlin and the Texas A&M Aggies, as they blew a huge lead against UCLA in Week 1.

However, since then, the Aggies have bounced back in a big way, winning five of six games, with their only loss coming against No. 1 Alabama.

On Saturday morning’s College GameDay episode, analyst Kirk Herbstreit credited Sumlin for turning things around at Texas A&M.

“I think Kevin Sumlin and his staff deserve a lot of credit,” he said. “With where they were at the beginning of the season, with the board of regents sending out emails and the AD setting a mark he had to hit (and) opening up with one of the most embarrassing losses, they’ve righted the ship.”

Fellow analyst David Pollack said Texas A&M’s 27-19 loss to Alabama was a moral victory, too:

“They hung with Bama, that’s a win.” Pollack added.

With a home game against Mississippi State this weekend, the Aggies could take another big step toward proving they’re a top-tier SEC team.
