Paul Finebaum broke down the timing of Texas A&M’s decision to fire Jimbo Fisher on the Matt Barrie Show Sunday morning.

Fisher was fired early Sunday morning following Texas A&M’s win over Mississippi State.

Finebaum believes that the Aggies decided to fire Fisher now rather than later because they already have their eye on someone.

“They’re already at it,” Finebaum said. “They called Jimmy Sexton, who represents Jimbo, and you wanna be the first one out and there will be a domino effect. Because 2 weeks from today, that’s the end of the regular season. The ADs want to move in there and they want a coach by tomorrow. There’s a very narrow window. It tells me they’ve got their eyes on somebody. Because they’ve been looking around, and if they didn’t think they could land a white whale so to speak, I don’t think they would’ve made this move.”

Finebaum believes the Aggies are looking to find a coach by the end of the season, but in the meantime, Texas A&M co-defensive coordinator and D-line coach Elijah Robinson will serve as interim head coach.

The Aggies will take on Abeline Christian next week before closing out the season against LSU.
