It might sound odd, but after a record-tying 7 overtimes of football, the first thing that comes to mind is, well, more football. That’s what happens when you win that marathon game, snapping a long losing streak and resurrecting a once heated rivalry.

Texas A&M finished the 2018 regular season on the highest of highs, completing an 8-4 season under first-year head coach Jimbo Fisher. Suddenly bowl season can’t come fast enough. The Aggies are progressing nicely into Fisher’s system and the extra practices can only help.

Meanwhile Aggieland is eager to find out the bowl destination. Most projections pinpoint three particular places. All three have its attributes. Of course, a New Year’s Day bowl game would be ideal, but if not there are a couple more attractive possibilities.

Here are some of the latest bowl projections for Texas A&M:

SDS: (Gator) vs. Michigan State

SB Nation: (Outback) vs. Iowa

SI: (Texas) vs. Baylor

CFN: (Texas) vs. Iowa State

Bleacher Report: (Gator) vs. Iowa

NBC Sports: (Gator) vs. Wisconsin

CBS Sports: (Outback) vs. Michigan State

Of that group, here’s how the three consensus choices rank as far as destination, prestige and fan friendliness.

1. Outback Bowl, Jan. 1., Tampa, Fla.

This is easily the most prestigious of the group. Played on New Year’s Day at a NFL venue in Tampa, home of the NFL Tampa Bay Buccaneers, this would be an ideal destination for the Aggies. They’ve never played in the bowl and would bring a following as excited to be there as their football team. Texas A&M has not played in a bowl game in Florida since the 1957 Gator Bowl.

The projected opponents, Iowa or Michigan State, are not the caliber of competition one would expect from a New Year’s Day bowl, but that could change as well. For Aggieland, there are many New Year’s Eve celebrations throughout the Tampa Bay area, most notably in Ybor City. Located on the Gulf Coast, there would be no shortage of fun activities for those who make the trip.

2. Gator Bowl, Dec. 31, Jacksonville, Fla.

Also known as the TaxSlayer Bowl, the game is played in Jacksonville, at TIAA Bank Field, home of the NFL Jacksonville Jaguars. It’s another potential opportunity to play a game where the pros play, and that’s always an exciting time for the players. As mentioned, the Aggies have not played in this bowl since 1957. Ironically, projections have the Aggies facing Iowa in the Outback or the Gator Bowls. Wisconsin is also a projected opponent for Texas A&M in the Gator Bowl.

Jacksonville is on the Atlantic Coast and high temperatures are in the upper 60s for late December. The game will be played on New Year’s Eve night, so making it to Landing Courtyard to ring in the New Year is a must.

3. Texas Bowl, Dec. 27, Houston

This would obviously be the easiest bowl to get to from College Station. A short car drive would do the job. But finishing the season with momentum after winning the final three regular season games, including a victory over CFP No. 7 LSU, it would seem as though the Aggies are destined for bigger and better things.

But should the Aggies wind up in Houston for their bowl game, it wouldn’t be all bad. Again, it is a NFL venue, as NRG Stadium is home to the Houston Texans. Aggieland is familiar with the area, so navigating the spread out city and having a good time would be no problem. Ticket sales would surely benefit from having Aggieland in town for the game. Once again, the projected opponent leaves a lot to be desired, although a Baylor-Texas A&M matchup would pit former Southwest Conference and Big 12 Conference rivals.
