Former Texas A&M RB Trayveon Williams’ first NFL preseason has likely ended early.

The Cincinnati Bengals rookie left a preseason game against the Washington Redskins with a foot injury earlier this past week. On Sunday, Cincinnati coach Zac Taylor shared that Williams is likely sidelined for the rest of the preseason.

“I don’t think Trayveon will be back the remainder of the preseason,” Taylor told reporters, per Tyler Dragon of the Cincinnati Enquirer. “Hopefully he’ll be back by the first game or two of the regular season.

“It’s hard to say because it’s an injury that takes a couple weeks. He will not play the remainder of the preseason, but hopefully he’s back sooner rather than later.”

Preseason injuries can shake up a depth chart, but this is likely just a minor setback for Williams, who was having a good camp and looking at the RB3 spot behind Joe Mixon and Giovani Bernard. With Bernard in his contract year and potentially leaving Cincinnati after the 2019 season, Williams could be looking at a bigger role in 2020 and beyond. But Williams will have to learn the ropes as a rookie first.

The Bengals open the 2019 season against the Seattle Seahawks on Sept. 8.
