Ross Bjork met with reporters on Sunday evening College Station to discuss his decision to part ways with coach Jimbo Fisher.

Bjork addressed a number of issues, including Texas A&M’s immediate future with its current coaching staff. Bjork shed some light on why Elijah Robinson was selected as A&M’s interim coach for the remainder of the 2023 season.

Bjork told a story about his time on the Texas A&M practice field last week. He said he was speaking with an NFL scout who was “fixated” on Texas A&M’s defensive line group and how they were being coached.

“To me, Elijah is all about the players,” Bjork said. “The reaction today was awesome when he spoke to the team. I wanted somebody that the players would gravitate towards. It’s gonna be a lot coming their way. We know what that means.

“I’ve already seen a lot of positivity around [Robinson]’s leadership. That’s really what it was all about.”

Bjork also noted Texas A&M’s two experienced coordinators — Bobby Petrino and DJ Durkin — and indicated he didn’t want to remove either of those coaches from their current roles.

Robinson began the season as Texas A&M’s defensive line coach and co-defensive coordinator alongside Durkin. Robinson has been on Texas A&M’s coaching staff since the 2018 season.

Bjork said Robinson will serve as the team’s interim head coach through the bowl game.

Texas A&M will host Abilene Christian on Saturday.
