Sam Bennett had a tremendous opening round of the Masters on Thursday as the Texas A&M amateur started with a birdie and an eagle, and finished with the lowest first 9 holes for an amateur in Masters history. He didn’t record a bogey during the memorable round.
Bennett said the support back home was massive, and a lot of people are cheering him on.
“First Masters round, I couldn’t have dreamed of a better start,” Bennett said. “Birdie-eagle, that kind of settled me down, and I was able to stack shots and play a really steady round and a lot of stress-free golf.”
Bennett admitted that he only missed 1 fairway, and hit every iron shot the way he wanted.
“We’re just going to do the same thing today,” Bennett said. “… If we get out of position, bogey’s not always bad out here and we’re going to attack where we’re able to.”
