Sam Bennett is having a tremendous start at the Masters as the Texas A&M amateur not only birdied the first role, but then followed that with a chip-in eagle at No. 2.

Bennett is the first Aggie to play the tournament while still a member of the golf team. He earned a spot in the prestigious event in Augusta, Georgia when he won the 122nd U.S. Amateur Championship in August.

Bennett is not the only Aggie in the field, he’s joined by Cameron Champ, who is in the tournament again after he finished in the top 12 of the event last year. He played at Texas A&M from 2014-17.

For Bennett, he’s enjoying a strong stretch of his career.

During the 2022-23 college season, Bennett has 3 top 10 finishes, including a victory at the John Burns Intercollegiate and a fourth-place showing at The Blessings Intercollegiate. The 2022 SEC Men’s Golfer of the Year also has an exemption to play in the 2023 Open Championship at Royal Liverpool Golf Club in Hoylake, England, on July 20-23.

Bennett, 23, in the last 2 years, has earned First-Team All-America honors and represented the United States in the Arnold Palmer Cup.
