Texas A&M has elevated Elijah Robinson to the role of interim head coach following the dismissal of Jimbo Fisher on Sunday.

According to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, Robinson will be the guy to close out the season. The co-defensive coordinator and defensive line coach has been in College Station since 2018. He also held the title of Assistant Head coach on Fisher’s staff.

DJ Durkin, Bobby Petrino, and Steve Addazio all served on Fisher’s staff as assistants this season. Given the collective head coaching experience of that trio, many believed one of them might take over as the interim.

Instead, Robinson will have a chance to lead the team. He was a Penn State standout from 2004-08 and coached at the school until 2011. In 2014, Robinson took over the defensive line for Temple. He worked there until 2017, when he moved to Baylor.

This season was Robinson’s first as the run game coordinator for A&M. The Aggies rank 11th in defensive efficiency against the run, giving up just 3.1 yards per carry this year. It’s a marked improvement from where the Aggies sat last season — 4.8 yards per carry allowed, 109th nationally.

The Aggies (6-4, 4-3 SEC) face Abilene Christian at home next Saturday. They play LSU in Baton Rouge on Nov. 25 to close out the regular season.
