Texas A&M coach Kevin Sumlin answered questions from the media Tuesday on topics ranging from last week’s loss to Auburn and this week’s opponent, Western Carolina, led by record-setting quarterback Troy Mitchell of Houston.

On his offense’s decline of late, especially in the loss to Auburn:

“It’s a combination of things (that have resulted in the struggles) coupled with a couple of young guys at quarterback or ones who haven’t played much. Last week, the big story of the game is we lost the turnover battle 3-0, two of them in the end zone.

“We moved the football fairly well and like most teams in America, when we limit the turnovers and penalties, we have won.”

On if Kyler Murray, who left the Auburn game with a head injury, will start this week:

“Kyler left the game Saturday night and without getting into specifics into injuries, which we never do, yesterday was a mental day for us and today we will see how his is physically. Kyle (Allen) and Jake (Hubenak) need to prepare this week like they are going to, like they always do, start the game.”

On his message to Aggies fans on his team’s performance:

“I would say, just like any coach, we want to win every game, be undefeated. Wait until the end of the season and see where we are.”

On if he recruited Western Carolina quarterback Troy Mitchell:

“No we didn’t, but we should have. He’s their all-time yardage leader at Western Carolina. A Houston product and a Cy-Fair (Cypress-Fair High School) player. They have one guy from Texas and it is that guy. He’s going to be excited to be here.”

On the last home game for his senior class:

“(A college career) goes by fast. For these seniors, all they are guaranteed is 180 more minutes of football and a bowl game. It will be an emotional night and it should be.”
