In the first elimination game, Texas A&M got a big inning and some stellar pitching to move on in the College World Series in Omaha.

The Aggies scored in all but 2 innings, including a 4-run second inning, to beat the Longhorns, 10-2 on Sunday in Omaha. The Aggies advance to play the Oklahoma-Notre Dame loser at 2 p.m. ET on Tuesday on ESPN. How sweet it was to send the Longhorns home.

The Aggies got a big start from Micah Dallas, who went 5 innings, and threw 95 pitches. He allowed just 2 runs, 1 earned, in an outing that also included 3 strikeouts and 2 walks. He allowed 6 hits.

Dallas came into Sunday, his third postseason start, with a 2-0 record and a 2.45 ERA so far this postseason with 12 strikeouts in 14 2/3 innings. He was relieved by Jacob Palisch, who went 2 2/3 innings, and allowed just 1 hit, 2 walks and struck out 5.

The first 2 Aggie pitchers kept the Longhorns at bay at the plate, and kept further damage at a minimum in 2 innings. The Aggies didn’t allow a run in the 4th inning or 6th inning despite putting runners on first and second with no one out. In the sixth, Palisch struck out Ivan Melendez, also known as the “Hispanic Titanic,” and the leading home run hitter in the country this season.

At the plate, the Aggies had a big day from Ryan Targac, who scored 4 runs, as he reached on 2 walks and also had a hit. But the Aggies also had 3 players with 2 hits each in the win.

Dallas’ outing against Texas was not a surprise, given his history against the Longhorns, The Eagle noted. In 2021, Dallas picked up the win in 7 1/3 innings of work, handing Texas a 5-3 loss while at Texas Tech. He also pitched 2 1/3 hitless relief innings against the Longhorns during his freshman season in 2019.
