When Tennessee meets Auburn this weekend, it’ll be a reunion for former Alabama assistants Kevin Steele and Jeremy Pruitt.

Pruitt, of course, is the new Tennessee head coach, and Steele is currently Auburn’s offensive coordinator. Interestingly, they were both connected to the Vols’ job this offseason.

On Wednesday, Pruitt spoke about his relationship with Steele, and how Steele helped him land a job at Bama back in 2007. Pruitt said Steele, who was then Alabama’s defensive coordinator, called and offered him an assistant job at Bama through Nick Saban (via 247Sports):

“He called me one night,” Pruitt said, “and he asked me if I’d be interested in talking to Coach Saban. I did. From there, I went to work.”

Both coaches have gone on to high levels of success since then, and their showdown on Saturday should be a fun one.

Will Pruitt’s defense continue Auburn’s offensive struggles? Or will Steele’s Auburn defense stymie the Vols’ offensive attack? Tune in to the SEC Network at noon Eastern time on Saturday to find out.
