It’s finally game week on Rocky Top but instead of focusing on the Georgia State game, the biggest news in Knoxville surrounds the uncertain status of transfer Auburn Solomon and the suspension of one of the team’s best players.

After being arrested over the weekend, sophomore cornerback Bryce Thompson was suspended by Tennessee on Monday. The team released the following statement from Jeremy Pruitt announcing the news:

“Bryce Thompson is suspended indefinitely while the process continues. We hold our student-athletes to a high standard. The safety of all students is our first priority here at Tennessee.”

During his first press conference of the season, Pruitt commented on his decision to bench one of his best players when asked if he believed Thompson “presents a danger” to any of the students on Tennessee’s campus.

“I released a statement on that today and that’s all we are going to talk about that for right now,” Pruitt said on Monday. “We are going to focus on this game. For us, that’s what we can focus on.”

Thompson was honored as a 2018 FWAA Freshman All-American and 2018 SEC All-Freshman Team following his debut season on Rocky Top. He started 10 games last fall and led the Vols with three interceptions and seven pass break ups. He made 34 tackles, four tackles for loss and one forced fumble during his freshman season.
