Butch Jones addresses parents of Jalen Hurd speaking out about his transfer
In the wake of the controversy surrounding Jalen Hurd’s mid-season transfer from Tennessee, the running back’s mother and stepfather both publicly spoke about his decision.
Vols coach Butch Jones said he understands where they’re coming from.
Jones addressed the situation during a Wednesday news conference, two days after he announced Hurd’s intentions to leave the program. There has been plenty of speculation about why Hurd chose to transfer, but Jones said he can understand his parents wanting the best for him.
Butch on parents of #Vols speaking to media: I have three sons who play football. I understand they want what’s best for their sons.

. @UTCoachJones: I'm a prideful father, had 1 opportunity to watch my son play in a varsity game, stayed til 1 minute left. #Vols

. @UTCoachJones: As a parent, I kept wondering why isn't he in, why isn't he in? But those 1-2 minutes he got in were some of the greatest

Hurd’s stepfather was quite critical of the media, and his mother lamented those spreading “lies and rumors” about why Hurd made the decision. But both stressed that they support him, which is something Jones understands well.
