Evan Berry is one of the most dynamic kickoff and punt returners in the SEC, but outside of two incredible returns in a Week 1 win over Georgia Tech, he hasn’t been on the field for the Tennessee Volunteers.

According to coach Butch Jones, Berry has been dealing with an undisclosed injury and is still not quite ready to return.

During his recorded Wednesday radio show, Vols Calls, Jones said he doesn’t expect the talented returner to be available for the South Carolina game (via KnoxNews.com):

“He’s getting closer, and he’s working very hard, but I would still say he’s probably a couple weeks away,” Jones told Tennessee radio voice Bob Kesling.

The Vols could certainly use the instant boost Berry can provide, as a big kickoff or punt return can swing an entire game.

Though it sounds like he won’t be able to play against the Gamecocks next week, perhaps the talented returner can play in the weeks following.
