The past few Saturdays, there have been spring football games throughout the SEC. Tennessee, however, did not have a traditional spring game this year due to renovations at Neyland Stadium.

Josh Heupel’s Volunteers held a scrimmage earlier this month with a limited attendance of media, recruits and family members. UT couldn’t do its usual spring game because of renovations to Neyland Stadium. In 2022, a $180 million first part of a $340 million total project will open with a field-level club on the sideline and a party deck, sports bar-type area in the north end of the upper deck, beneath a new video board.

Tennessee AD Danny White recently told Sports Business Journal that the program is taking a proactive approach as it hopes to have one of college football’s best stadiums after the massive renovation project.

“By the time we’re done with this pretty massive renovation, we want to have one of, if not the best, stadium in college football,” White told SBJ. “That means thinking proactively about the future and modern fan experience. And in less exciting ways, it means fixing some stuff and renovating some stuff that’s really outdated.”

SBJ also shared a couple of construction photos and renderings on Twitter.
