Greg McElroy is impressed with plenty about the Tennessee offense.
McElroy noted that Tennessee has scored 395 points this season, which is the third-most through the team’s first 8 games in SEC history behind 2018 Alabama, and 1996 Florida.
McElroy is not surprised with what Jalin Hyatt’s doing because he always had the “alpha dog” potential.
“But the way that they force teams to bust coverage is the most amazing thing I’ve seen in my life,” McElroy said. “How often is Hyatt wide open. How often are receivers for Tennessee completely wide open because of busted coverage, or late adjustment that gets them free and causes miscommunication in the secondary. It’s amazing to watch.”
McElroy called it a testament to Josh Heupel about how Tennessee creates so much confusion for the opposing team.
McElroy noted that he respects Kentucky, and that made the 38-point victory even more impressive.
“But defensively, this was by far their best performance of the year,” he said, and added it was the best performance since 2008 when the Vols gave up just 3 points to Mississippi State.
