One practice into his college career, early enrollee quarterback Harrison Bailey may be the most popular player on Tennessee’s roster.

That’s not very surprising considering the love-hate relationship many members of Vol Nation have for senior quarterback Jarrett Guarantano. Simply put, Guarantano had as many lows as he did highs during the 2019 season and if he can’t consistently perform on the field this fall, the Vols can’t be taken seriously as SEC contenders.

When asked about the quarterback competition during his first press conference of the spring, Jeremy Pruitt noted that Tennessee has several options to open the spring and plans to go with the quarterback that performs the best in practice, whichever signal-caller that turns out to be.

“We have good competition there. Jarrett is a guy that has played a lot of ball,” Pruitt said on Tuesday. “When you look at all three of those guys, there are a lot of positives that they do. We have to eliminate a few mistakes that we made last year. With another year in the system, that is something that we are working on.

“We have a couple other quarterbacks in that room. Harrison Bailey, Jimmy Holiday, Kasim Hill, they are taking the same amount of reps too. We have to figure out who our first, second and third quarterback is. They will have a chance to do that throughout the spring. That’s for every position. In this business, you’re only as good as your last game, whether you are a coach or a player. There always needs to be competition so everyone will be at their best.”

If Guarantano can’t get it done, Tennessee fans are eager to turn the keys of the offense over to true freshman, Harrison Bailey. After leading his Marietta High School program to its first Georgia State Championship in over 50 years, many Tennessee fans are hoping and praying the freshman can restore glory to the Volunteer program.

All it has taken is a few video clips of Bailey throwing in a Volunteer uniform for Tennessee fans to get fired up about his potential.
