Joe Milton and the Tennessee Volunteers struck early against rival Vanderbilt Saturday afternoon in Knoxville.

Milton delivered a dot to Ramel Keyton in stride for a 56-yard opening touchdown. Milton saw good protection in the pocket and cannot have placed the ball any better for score.

This is very likely to be Milton’s last game at Neyland Stadium. He’s had an up and down career at Tennessee, struggling some in 2021 and losing the job to Hendon Hooker. However, he had a strong season as a backup and won Tennessee games against Vanderbilt and Clemson last year after Hooker went down with a season-ending injury.

Milton has underachieved this season relative to fan expectations. He’s sitting at 2,430 yards with 17 touchdowns and 5 interceptions.

Vanderbilt had a quick score in response to Milton and Keyton’s connection and the score is now knotted at 7-all with just over 11 minutes remaining.
