Kirk Herbstreit reacts to Tennessee-heavy crowd in CFP game at Ohio State
Kirk Herbstreit is impressed with the crowd that Tennessee has managed to bring to The Shoe for Saturday night’s first-round College Football Playoff game.
Some estimations have the crowd breakdown as much as 40%-50% Tennessee fans. In any event, the heavy Vols turnout has been well-documented on social media ahead of kickoff.
Herbstreit, who played at Ohio State from 1989-92, said it was unlike anything he’d ever seen before in Columbus.
“I’ve been coming here since 1975,” Herbstreit said prior to kickoff. “I’ve never seen this many opposing colors from the opposing team in this stadium. It’s very eery. It’s creating a lot of hype for this game.”
Herbstreit also noted the extreme number of Vols fans who were present at College GameDay on Saturday morning. He also said it was “by far” the most visiting fans he’d seen at a GameDay show since he joined the cast nearly 3 decades ago.
The stakes for this game are extremely high for both teams. Ohio State has national championship aspirations despite losing twice during the regular season. Tennessee also has hopes of making a big run in this Playoff and is participating in the Playoff for the first time in program history.
The winner of this game will face Oregon in the quarterfinals.
