Tennessee reportedly hires David Cutcliffe's son, Austin Peay Senior Associate AD, to join Danny White's staff
When it comes to Tennessee’s new recruiting staff hires there is been a constant theme, the Volunteers are loading up on graduates from the school.
In the case of the newest hire in Tennessee’s athletic staff, that also applies.
According to Pete Thamel of Yahoo Sports, Tennessee AD Danny White is set to hire Austin Peay Senior Associate AD Marcus Hilliard.
Hilliard’s connections to Tennessee’s program run deep as the UT graduate and former Volunteer equipment manager is also the adopted son of Duke head coach and former Volunteer offensive coordinator assistant David Cutcliffe. The Cutcliffe family adopted Hilliard after his mother died following a battle with cancer back in 2002.
Tennessee’s newest hire also previously worked with White at UCF from 2016-2018, serving as the program’s Vice President and Director of Athletics’ Chief of Staff.
Hilliard was hired by Austin Peay in August of 2018 and has been with the Governors since that time overseeing several aspects of the program, including the Govs Club, communications, marketing, fan experience, ticketing, video and social media.
just wait, the haters are going to come out of the woodwork and tell us how bad of a hire this is.
Sorry, it’s not hate, I am to busy laughing. First Rice and now Austin Peay? Just the kind of staff you need to compete in the SEC.
i really dont think it matters where an assistant AD came from since he is not coaching or playing
but i may be wrong on that
Knoxville is fast becoming “UCF North”. Heupel better win some games or the mattress-burning-students will reappear.
Enjoy while you can son
Are you Afan ‘s Dad?
This hire is what could bring Arch Manning to TN in a few years. The Manning family is very close to the Cutcliffe family. I have no clue what benefit he could possibly bring to the program other than a potential direct pipeline to one of the most sought after quarterbacks in a long while.
Sure, because five star recruits make signing decisions based on the assistant AD.
If Arch ends up at TN (admittedly a stretch) you may owe an apology to Danny White and Josh Heupel. BTW, I knew a guy who ended up at LSU because of a girl so don’t work so hard trying to figure out why an18yo goes to a certain college.
Lots of guys pick their school based on their girlfriends. That’s not usual. Picking a school because of an assistant AD is quite a bit different.
a stretch? More like an impossibility
You must be kidding. Delusionial dreaming the impossible dream.
Plus how would this hire matter one bit to Arch?
I want what you’re smoking
