Paul Finebaum said he waited all week to unleash this rant, and he did it with Adam Sparks of Knox News on Friday in Knoxville.

Finebaum opened his interview on “The Paul Finebaum Show” on SEC Network with Sparks spent a lot of time criticizing the CBS Sports analyst in Danielson and said, “many are really looking forward to seeing him do Big Ten games next year.” It was Danielson, in an interview with Sparks, who described Neyland Stadium as “just about the same” as other SEC stadiums.

Playing to the Tennessee crowd, Finebaum reiterated how Danielson was off base.

“There’s kind of an unwritten rule if you’re not so full of hubris and arrogance and think you know everything,” Finebaum said. “It’s not like Gary was stopped at the Atlanta airport and said, “What stadium do you think?” He was being interviewed by a reporter who works in Knoxville for the Knoxville News-Sentinel group and he’s coming to Knoxville. So only Gary could stick his foot in his mouth by not praising the greatest stadium in college football, Neyland Stadium! That’s the part I don’t understand.”

Finebaum added that since CBS has been a “lame duck” on the “SEC on CBS” package for so long, that, “he just can’t wait to get out of here.”

Danielson, of course, will call Big Ten games next season as CBS has already begun a transition. Danielson and his broadcast partner Brad Nessler have already called multiple Big Ten games this season.

“Next year when he’s doing the Big Ten Saturday afternoon Game of the Week when it’s Minnesota at Purdue, and he’s in a cornfield in West Lafayette, he’s going to have to say, ‘This is like any other Big Ten stadium,'” Finebaum said. “… I may never get over that interview you did with Gary Danielson.”

Finebaum then said it’d be one thing if Danielson was doing Premier League soccer, but Danielson was in the press box a year ago when Tennessee knocked off Alabama, as Finebaum put it: “Very possibly the greatest scene in college football history.”
