Payton Gottshall shines with no-hitter in Tennessee's NCAA Tournament opener
Payton Gottshall and No. 4 Tennessee opened their NCAA Tournament run Friday evening as hosts of the Knoxville Regional. First up for the Vols was a matchup with Northern Kentucky, a game that Tennessee aced with flying colors.
Behind a pair of big offensive innings and a huge performance from Gottshall, the Vols shutout Northern Kentucky 12-0. Gottshall went the distance in the 5-inning run-rule victory, recording a no-hitter in the process.
In 5 innings pitched, Gottshall blanked Northern Kentucky and issued just 2 walks on the day. She also struck out 9 in the dominant outing.

Zaida Puni started the scoring for Tennessee with a solo home run in the bottom of the 1st inning. She delivered another home run in a 5-run 4th inning, finishing the day with 4 RBI and 2 home runs.
Jamison Brockenbrough also had a big afternoon, finishing the day with a team-high 5 RBI in the 12-0 win. With the win, Tennessee will face Indiana in the winners’ bracket.
