Quick Take: Tennessee's defense shuts out Florida at half
The last time Tennessee shutout Florida at halftime was 1955. The Vols have done just that through the first two quarters of Saturday’s game.
The “Orange Swarm” defense has brought constant pressure to quarterback Jeff Driskel, who’s been held to 48 yards and an interception on 10-of-18 passing. The Gators rushing attack has 74 yards on 18 carries, led by Matt Jones’ 47. Tennessee has held Florida to a 4-of-10 third down efficiency, which is actually higher than the 20.1 average they held entering the game.
The Vols offense looks impressive with Justin Worley throwing for 126 yards on 16-of-19 passing. Pig Howard leads with 46 yards on two catches, both for big first downs. Tennessee needs to improve its own third down efficiency as its been held to 3-of-9 through two quarters.
The Vols must also see improvement from its running game. Jalen Hurd has been held to just 16 yards on six attempts and is averaging 2.7 yards per carry. Marlin Lane has 10 yards on five carries and is averaging 2.0. Tennessee must see improvement in the second half to secure its lead and snap Florida’s nine-game winning streak.
