Report: Greg Schiano seeking compensation for broken deal with Tennessee
For a brief period of time on Sunday, it appears Ohio State DC Greg Schiano was Tennessee’s head coach.
However, the backlash from fans and politicians led the Vols to back out of the deal, but backing out of a signed agreement is easier said than done.
Indeed, now it appears that Schiano and his representatives would like compensation for Tennessee backing out of the agreement, according to FootballScoop:
Am told UT & Greg Schiano had a understanding of terms & now Schiano’s side is seeking compensation for breaking the agreement off. Wow https://t.co/ppxU2CWIrn

How much compensation Schiano is seeking remains to be seen, but if the Ohio State defensive coordinator gets even a penny from Tennessee, it will be a horrible look for AD John Currie.
Vol Nation is none too happy with the Vols’ athletic director these days, and it may be tough for him to weather this storm he has created.
Good grief, what a mess. An hour later and he has his hand out, good job currie.
A perfect example of what kind of guy he is.
We are all complaining about maybe hiring schiano, when we should all be protesting Beverly Davenport’s hiring of John Currie. We could’ve had Blackburn!!!!!!!!
If he wants it, he should file a lawsuit. A signed MOU is not an executed contract. He has suffered no loss or injury.
The fact that Tennessee withdrew from the “understanding” is surely within their rights of termination of that understanding.
He also may have a defamation of character lawsuit as well, this will be interesting to watch.
So he’s going to sue the Vol fans? The University didn’t defame him.
@weagle it really depends on how the ones that pulled the deal word it. That’s why I clearly stated “may” have a defamation lawsuit.
Give the money to the kids that lived through the nightmare at Penn State.
So let me get this straight; Currie makes a horrific choice, and now we have ANOTHER coaching buyout for a coach who never coached Tennessee for 1 day?!
Yeah, we’re gonna need someone in The Hill to get their $hit together quick. This has gone from the Theater of the Strange, to a freaking national embarrassment.
Who is running this school anyway, a bunch of dimwits. Fire em all! Good grief what a bunch of maroons.
Popcorn
Dont you mean hotdogs.
What kind of idiots are running the University of Tennessee Fire them all now This is so damn embarrassing
Should of never hired Mike Hammilton.
Should’ve never fired fulmer.
What a humiliating embarrassment for the administration. I worry, are we that desperate or is Currie just lacking common sense?
Both
Sorry but a signed contract means something. I hope the Vols do the right thing and pay the man.
Tennessee could have spent that 20 million elsewhere, but instead Greg is going to buy himself something nice.
A signed memorandum of agreement is not a signed contract. A contract that is not signed is irrelevant. Ask Mike Price and Alabama.
If Schiano wants it, he can hire a lawyer and sue for it. Good luck!
too old 4 college it’s an MOU lmao
He will most likely win too. Contracts don’t actually have to signed to be legal. Neither side will want the embarrassment that goes along with this becoming too public, so I expect this to be settled.
Jarhead it depends totally on the wording of the MOU. MOU’s don’t require legally binging language and or payment. It totally depends on the language.
My guess everything already signed. They was just waiting for press conference. UT backed out so this is goi g to cost Currie. My guess is his job as well.
Currie should be fired tonight. Not doing so shows incompetence at the highest levels of this institution.
Oh I agree. Currie just bought Schianos wife something nice for xmas. Anything that is signed from both parties is legal, I dont care if its on a napkin.
Holy Hell…y’all are making Arkansas administration look crazy smart…
Karma thy name is Currie….lol. Come on Johnny boy go ask backers for money you just spent for this mess. I see another AD out of a job soon.
This is exactly why most fans where calling for boycott. They dont trust the AD nor University president. Why should we after 10 years plus of the same BS.
LMFAO.
How do you screw it up this bad? Does Currie know anything about football? Amazing to miss the mark this bad.
Brohm should be who we’re after. Could bring an intact staff along with a real pair of proven offensive and defensive philosophies that win… Already has a known price tag too. We wouldn’t be negotiating in the dark…
Reports I’m seeing (even on this site) is that Schitno (yes, spelt that way on purpose) backed out after seeing the fan, former player, and TN legislation backlash.
