Byron Young is back with Tennessee after he missed the first 2 games because of eligibility issues related to a former school he attended.

He made 6 tackles in the Vols’ 56-0 win over Tennessee Tech on Saturday, and now turns his attention to Florida this week in a 7 p.m. ET game in Gainesville on ESPN. Young told reporters on Tuesday that he’s looking forward to Saturday.

“I’m really excited,” Young said. “First SEC game on the road. This is why I came to the SEC. It’s going to be a great environment and I’m excited for the challenge.”

Defensive line coach Rodney Garner spoke to the media earlier Tuesday, and said it was good to get Young back.

“He was very rusty. He’s an old guy, but a young football player,” Garner said. “It hurt him not having those first 2 games to sharpen his skills. But you can tell he has a presence and you can feel him in the game.”

Young came to Tennessee considered the No. 1 weakside defensive end and No. 11 overall junior college player by 247Sports by way of Georgia Military College.
