Is Tennessee the No. 1 team in the country?

You’ll be hard pressed to find anyone that wouldn’t at least take the conversation. The Vols have been blasting opponents left and right all season, downing Pitt, LSU, Alabama, Florida and Kentucky on their way to a perfect 8-0 record.

The main variable to consider is the Vols’ defense. It’s been shaky this year, but looked stout against Kentucky Saturday night. Tennessee picked off Will Levis 3 times on its way to a 44-6 win. Kentucky had just 205 total yards on the evening, 50 of which came on the final drive down 38.

Offensively, the Vols are unstoppable. Tennessee let up in the second half but could have scored 50 against Mark Stoops’ squad if they had wanted.

The College Football Playoff rankings come out on Tuesday and Tennessee will be among the top 4. Many fans think the Vols have the resume and pass the eye test for the No. 1 spot.

Fans reacted to that proposition on social media Saturday night.
