The Tennessee Volunteers face the unenviable task of replacing longtime QB Joshua Dobbs this fall, and will try to do so with either Jarrett Guarantano or Quinten Dormady.

Coach Butch Jones mentioned at SEC Media Days earlier this month that there’s a possibility the Vols could use a two-quarterback system, but nothing is set in stone just yet.

For new quarterbacks coach Mike Canales, being prepared for all scenarios is important. He told RockyTopInsider.com that he wants to make sure every quarterback on the roster is ready to play at a moment’s notice:

“I know plenty of programs have done it,” Canales said. “I know one in the SEC used it a long time ago back at Florida when Coach Spurrier did that.

“The big thing is we’re just going to try and get all three quarterbacks ready to play in that room. I think it’s important that they’re all ready to play. They’re a snap away from being the next guy. And when Coach Jones is ready and the timing is right, we’ll make that decision.”

Right now, it seems as if Dormady — a junior — has the inside track on the starting job, but it’s still too early to make a final decision.

If Canales has his way, though, Guarantano will be ready to play when his name is called.
