Suspended Tennessee linebacker Martavius French is apparently set to leave Knoxville.

The former 4-star recruit has reportedly entered his name into the transfer portal. AL.com college football reporter Matt Zenitz was the first to report the news on Friday evening.

A Memphis native, French signed with the Volunteers out of the class of 2020, ranking as the No. 10 player in Tennessee and the No. 17 inside linebacker in the country. He originally committed to Arkansas in July 2019 but re-opened his recruitment that October, eventually pledging to Jeremy Pruitt and Tennessee 2 days later. He would go on to redshirt the 2020 season.

In March, French and 3 other Tennessee players were suspended by new head coach Josh Heupel after they were arrested for drug-related offenses. Heupel did not give a timetable for the return for either player. One of the players involved, true freshman defensive lineman Isaac Washington, announced on Thursday that he would enter the transfer portal.

Now, it appears French will also seek a fresh start with another program in the wake of his recent arrest and subsequent suspension.
