The Vols have hit the practice field for the first time this spring and it looks like the focus of practice was on the team’s offense.

At least that’s the way it looks based on the video shared by Tennessee following the first practice of the Josh Heupel era.

Featured heavily in the video shared by the team was Heupel working with the team’s quarterbacks as the Vols have an open competition in camp for the starting role in the new offense.

The signal-callers vying for the role are Virginia Tech graduate transfer Hendon Hooker, sophomore Harrison Bailey, junior Brian Maurer and true freshman Kaidon Salter — the freshman is currently suspended from the team and was not at practice on Thursday.

“We used the code word attack,” Heupel said following the first practice of camp. “That’s a big part of who we are inside of our building. At the quarterback position in particular, I thought they handled the tempo portion of some of our team sets extremely well and handled the communication piece of it. They played within themselves. They made some mistakes out there, but they did a lot of really positive things too. The thing that we’ve challenged our guys on is ‘Don’t make the same mistake twice. Be coachable. Accept the coaching in a positive way.”
