Tim Corbin once again had an up close and personal view of Tennessee’s baseball team on Thursday as Corbin’s Vanderbilt team suffered a 10-1 loss in the SEC Tournament in Hoover, Alabama.

“They have extreme confidence. They’re older,” Corbin said. “They don’t beat themselves and they have a great pitching staff that can beat you in a lot of ways. … They’re one of the better teams in my 20 years in this conference. Tony has done a great job with them.”

Tennessee scored double-digit runs for the 25th time this season and went for 6 runs in the first 3 innings.

The Vols scored 6 runs in the the third and fourth innings to extend their lead to 7-0. The Tennessee offense put up 5 runs on 5 hits in the third before they scored one in the fourth. Carter Young registered his seventh home run on the season with a solo shot to right center for Vanderbilt to make it a 7-1 contest.

That Vols offense showed off its power later in the game.

Blake Burke launched a pinch-hit fastball in the fifth over the opposite-field wall in left center. Then, Cortland Lawson smashed a middle-in fastball out of the confines of Hoover Met.

The 2 shots registered impressive numbers on the SEC’s Trackman data recording system. Burke’s homer traveled 406 feet and left the bat at 110 mph, while Lawson’s drive went 433 feet with a 103 mph exit velocity, the Vols noted.
