When a Tennessee player has the stripe removed from his helmet, it signifies that the veteran members of the team feel the player has what it takes to be a Volunteer.
On Friday, two Tennessee freshman got their stripes removed, which is a good sign for them heading into the 2017 season.
According to coach Butch Jones, TE LaTrell Bumphus and S Theo Jackson were rewarded for their hard work on Friday:

Jackson is a 3-star safety out of Nashville and Bumphus is a 3-star tight end from Savannah, Tennessee.
Bumphus has been particularly good in fall camp so far, earning the praise of his coaches for his outstanding play.
Now that he’s one of the first freshmen to have his stripe removed, he could have an impact in the Vols’ offense this fall.
