On the very first play of Tennessee’s 1995 matchup against No. 12 Alabama, QB Peyton Manning threw an 80-yard touchdown pass to Joey Kent. Heading into that game, the Vols had not beaten the Tide in 10 years. The pass signified the passing of the torch in the rivalry back to Tennessee’s favor under then-head coach Phillip Fulmer.

Duke coach David Cutcliffe, who was Tennessee’s quarterback coach and offensive coordinator at the time, broke down the tone-setting play for ESPN ahead of this week’s matchup between the Vols and the Tide:

Cutcliffe draws up the play and explains in detail what he told Manning to look for.

The 1995 Vols, then ranked No. 6 in the country, blew out the Crimson Tide in Birmingham that day, winning 41-14.

Saturday’s matchup between No. 1 Alabama and No. 9 Tennessee is scheduled to kick off at 3:30 p.m. Eastern time and can be seen on CBS.
