Tennessee defensive coordinator Bob Shoop met with the Knoxville media on Monday.

In a video posted by Vince Ferrara of WNML in Knoxville, Shoop previewed the Volunteers’ opponent this week — Missouri — while also complimenting Tigers quarterback Drew Lock.

Tennessee and Missouri will kick off in Columbia at 7:30 p.m. ET on the SEC Network Saturday.

Here’s the gist of what Shoop had to say about the Mizzou offense and Lock:

“They’re playing with a lot of confidence. They have won their last three games,” Shoop said. “They play with a great tempo. Lock has a good feel for the offense … Really, they look like a different team than they did at the beginning of the year. They play fast. They ran 120 snaps against us last year, so everything we do has to be a little faster and a little quicker. We have to get our eyes to the sideline quickly … The plays they run are simple, but the tempo is at warp speed.

“It’s hard to blitz against them,” Shoop added. “It’s tough to get pressure on Lock, because they see it coming. They don’t run a lot of downfield routes … lots of RPO’s. Lock is like a point guard in basketball distributing the ball.

“We gave up 700 yards against these guys last year and still won by five touchdowns, but this year is a little different team. We have to play more aggressively and hold them to a lower number.”
