Sonny Dykes wasn’t overwhelmingly considered a slam dunk hire during last season’s coaching carousel.

But it has turned out to be a great move for TCU.

Dykes has led the Horned Frogs to a 12-1 record in his 1st season in Fort Worth and has TCU in the College Football Playoff, where it will face off against Michigan on New Years Eve.

Not surprisingly, TCU has chosen to reward Dykes for the outstanding season that he and his team put together.

On Wednesday, ESPN reported that Dykes’ contract has been extended through the 2028 season and that he has been given a significant pay increase as well, although the exact financial terms of the new deal were not disclosed.

The 53-year-old Dykes had spent the previous 5 seasons at SMU and compiled a 30-18 overall mark before accepting the TCU job.

The Horned Frogs’ matchup with the Wolverines in the CFP semifinals is set for 4 p.m. (ET) on Dec. 31. Michigan is currently a 7.5-point favorite.
