Paul Finebaum provides humorous reason behind Heisman prediction for Arch Manning
Paul Finebaum was watching when Arch Manning filled in for an injured Quinn Ewers on Saturday night in Austin. After Ewers left in the 56-7 victory against UTSA, Manning threw for 223 yards and 4 touchdowns, while also scoring on a 67-yard touchdown run. That run was the longest run for a score by a Texas quarterback since Vince Young in 2005.
After the game on Saturday night, Finebaum guaranteed that Manning would win a Heisman trophy during his time at Texas. Finebaum talked about that prediction on McElroy and Cubelic in the Morning on Monday.
“I was asked do you think Arch will do something none of the Mannings ever did,” Finebaum said. “I felt like if I said no, I would really disappoint the producers on SportsCenter. And you know me, Greg, I never like to leave those guys hungry. The answer is 1 (Heisman for Arch).”
The Ewers injury isn’t as serious as was previously expected. He is expected to miss the game against Louisiana Monroe with the ab injury but is week-to-week after that.
While there could be a lot of drama on who should be the starter the rest of the season, Finebaum doesn’t think you will hear about a quarterback controversy.
“I don’t think so,” Finebaum said. “And we’re talking about a guy who understands his role. I think (Arch) had his moment on Saturday, I think Arch Manning is probably the most grounded QB in college football, based on what I’m watching from a distance.”
For now, it does seem like Manning will once again be on the field for Texas this upcoming weekend, but this is still Ewers’ team.
