Steve Sarkisian has made it official: Arch Manning will make his first collegiate start on Saturday.

On Thursday, Sarkisian confirmed Manning as the starter for No. 1 Texas’ Week 4 game against Louisiana-Monroe. Incumbent Texas starter Quinn Ewers is sidelined by an injury he sustained during the first half of the Longhorns’ Week 3 game against UTSA.

Manning dazzled in his big moment filling in for Ewers. He was 9-of-12 passing for 223 yards and 4 touchdowns, with no interceptions. Showing that his skillset differs from his legendary uncles, Manning had a highlight 67-yard touchdown run.

Manning’s standout performance had the college football world buzzing. The young quarterback has seen his Heisman Trophy odds soar. Paul Finebaum and others have weighed in on Texas’ national title hopes with Manning as the quarterback.

Sarkisian, meanwhile, isn’t getting carried away with Manning mania. The Texas head coach maintains that Ewers can still be a Heisman finalist despite missing time.

Ewers has been described as week-to-week. After the ULM game, Texas hosts Mississippi State in Week 5. The Longhorns are off in Week 6 before the Red River Rivalry in Week 7 and a highly anticipated clash with No. 2 Georgia in Week 8.

Texas’s quarterback situation with Ewers and Manning is a good “problem” to have. For Saturday, it’s the Manning show.
