Steve Sarkisian wasn’t trying to be corny. He was just enjoying himself after leading top-ranked Texas to a 34-3 thrashing of No. 18 Oklahoma in the 1st SEC edition of the Red River Rivalry.

The Longhorns head coach capped a perfect Saturday (for Texas fans, at least) with a shoutout to the folks who make those delicious corn dogs at the State Fair of Texas in Dallas, which is also the annual site of the Texas-Oklahoma game.

Leading into Saturday afternoon’s showdown, Oklahoma head coach Brent Venables remarked that if the Sooners could pull the upset, then he would treat himself to one of those corn dogs.

“If we get a W, I’m gonna have one,” said Venables.

Well, the Sooners didn’t get the W, and so no victory, no corn dog for Venables. But that wasn’t all, of course.

Sarkisian, ever the character, decided to take the corn dog thing to another level after the dominant victory.

So, after the Longhorns rolled past their hated rival, Sarkisian had a little show-and-tell for the media in the postgame press conference. It wasn’t the corn dog itself, but the evidence that he had indeed indulged himself with one. Sarkisian held out the stick that the corn dog goes on for all to see, remarking “I got my corn dog, y’all.”

He had the last word on the whole corn dog joke, and his No. 1 team had the last word on the Red River Rivalry in 2024.
