Texas standout has hilarious reaction to mention of Red River Rivalry betting line
Texas linebacker David Gbenda does not want any association with gambling.
During a media opportunity ahead of the Red River Rivalry showdown between No. 1 Texas and No. 18 Oklahoma, a media member’s question for Gbenda referenced the betting line for the game. At FanDuel Sportsbook, for instance, the Longhorns are 14.5-point favorites.
“What does that mean? The ‘favorite’ system – how does that work?” Gbenda asked.
After being told it means that bettors see Texas as 2 touchdowns better than Oklahoma, Gbenda sought to make clear that he’s not a gambler.
“The bettors? You said gambling?” Gbenda asked, prompting some mentions of Las Vegas.
“I don’t know, I have never been to Vegas. I would love to go out to Vegas… I don’t know about gambling– that’s illegal.”
Gbenda expressed appreciation that the bettors are high on Texas, but it doesn’t change anything.
“That’s great support, but, honestly, we’ve got to make sure come out and bring our best because they’re going to bring out their best,” the linebacker said.

Considering the NCAA’s strict rules against athletes participating in sports wagering activities, it’s smart for Gbenda to distance himself from any gambling talk. Fans of legal age in legal states, however, may want to wager on the Red River Rivalry showdown or other games. SDS has a guide to the best apps to bet on sports.
