Vanderbilt has its hands full with Northern Illinois on the road Saturday.

But the Commodores have an interesting story emerging at the quarterback position with the emergence of freshman AJ Swann.

Th 6-3, 225-pounder from Georgia enrolled at Vanderbilt in January.

Last week, in a 45-25 loss to Wake Forest, Swann came off the bench to replace starter Mike Wright and completed 8-of-11 passes for 146 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Throughout the week, Commodores coach Clark Lea indicated that Wright would start today’s game against NIU, but it was Swann who got the call. And he’s played very well again.

Swann has completed 17 of 25 passes for 244 yards and 4 touchdowns against the Huskies and has rallied Vanderbilt from a 14-point deficit into the lead.

The Commodores currently lead 35-28 heading to the 4th quarter,
