Long gone: Pat DeMarco launches home run over building beyond left-field fence to give Vandy 4-0 lead

The Vanderbilt Commodores lost Game 1 of their super-regional matchup with Duke on Friday night, meaning they were one loss away from seeing their outstanding season come to an end before reaching the College World Series.

They responded on Friday night with a no-hitter (the first in super-regional history) behind freshman pitcher Kumar Rocker to force a winner-take-all Game 3 on Sunday.

The Commodores got off to a fast start on Sunday, with a leadoff home run from Austin Martin to get things started in the bottom of the first inning:

Then, it was Pat DeMarco’s chance to get in on the action. Later in the inning, he absolutely crushed a three-run homer that sailed over the tall left-field fence and landed on the roof of the building just beyond:

The Commodores lead 4-0 heading into the second inning. We’ll see if that’s enough for Vandy to hold on and advance to Omaha, or if the bats will have more work to do.
