The Vanderbilt Commodores may have a quarterback competition on their hands between two players who aren’t even enrolled yet.

Fortunately for them, 3-star 2018 prospect Gavin Schoenwald also plays tight end, and will likely pursue that position for the Commodores after announcing his decision on Twitter Thursday:

Schoenwald, a Tennessee native, also plays quarterback, so the 6-5, 225-pounder is listed as an athlete by 247Sports.

According to the 247Sports composite, Schoenwald is the No. 40 athlete in the class of 2018 and the No. 16 overall recruit from the state of Tennessee.

The Commodores already have Allan Walters, a 3-star quarterback from New Jersey, committed from the 2018 class, so Schoenwald’s opportunities at that position may be limited.

However, adding a big, physical player to a recruiting class is never a bad thing, and that’s what Vandy did on Thursday.
