Derek Mason has another staff position to fill. Washington announced Tuesday that Terrence Brown has joined Jimmy Lake’s Huskies coaching staff for the 2020 season.

“I would like to thank head coach, Jimmy Lake, and athletic director, Jennifer Cohen, for this opportunity,” Brown said via a Washington release. “I am honored and grateful to be a part of the University of Washington football program and can’t wait to teach, mentor, develop and lead our student-athletes under Coach Lake’s vision. My wife and I are beyond excited to return to Seattle and reunite with Husky nation.”

Brown was on the Commodores coaching staff as cornerback coach for the 2018 and ’19 seasons. In 2018, Brown coached Joejuan Williams, who led all SEC cornerbacks in interceptions (four) and passes defended (18). Williams earned All-SEC recognition from both the coaches and the Associated Press and was selected by the Patriots in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft, the 45th overall selection.

Prior to his time at Vanderbilt, Brown was a graduate assistant at Washington from 2015-17 under former Huskies coach Chris Petersen. Earlier this month, Petersen announced he is stepping down with Lake taking over as head coach.

“I’m very excited to have Terrence coming back to Seattle to join our staff and work alongside Will Harris as they lead our defensive backs,” Lake said in the Brown announcement. “He’s a dynamic, talented coach who has proven that he knows how to do things the right way.”
