The first game of the Clark Lea Era did not go according to plan as Vanderbilt fell, 23-3, at home to FCS East Tennessee State Saturday, but the program received some promising news with an eye on the future this weekend.

Hapeville, Georgia 2022 3-star CB Quantaves “Gumbo” Gaskins announced his commitment to the Commodores Sunday. Per Rivals, he is the No. 94 player in the talent-rich state.

With Gaskins’ verbal pledge, Vanderbilt now has 19 commits in their upcoming class, the highest being a fellow Georgia cornerback, Warner Robins’ Caleb Coley.

Gaskins also holds reported scholarship offers from East Carolina, Missouri, South Carolina and four others.

Hoping to rebound from their season-opening defeat, Vanderbilt will head to Fort Collins to battle Colorado State Saturday at 10 p.m. ET on CBSSN.

The program’s next home game will come the following Saturday, September 18, against Stanford at 8 p.m. ET on ESPNU.
