Though it didn’t look like there were many Vanderbilt fans on Saturday as Alabama came to town and rolled to a 59-0 win, there will be a fight if the stadium is moved from campus.

According to the Vanderbilt Hustler, the Vanderbilt Student Government will discuss a bill opposing moving the stadium during a meeting this week.

This comes in response to speculation that the Commodores would share a stadium with a Major League Soccer team should Nashville be awarded an MLS expansion franchise.

VSG Senate speaker Molly Gupta told the Hustler that the government would love to have an MLS team in Nashville, but simply doesn’t want the football games moved off-campus:

“We support the construction of a soccer stadium and hope that Nashville gets awarded a franchise expansion, but we do not want a majority or all of our football games moved in the future as a result,” Gupta told The Hustler.

Nashville hasn’t been officially awarded an MLS franchise yet, but if it is, a stadium would have to be built.

It’ll be interesting to see how this situation plays out, but Vanderbilt fans could make a big case for keeping the stadium on campus by showing up in droves for the next few home games.
