Vanderbilt teases new helmet for 'Blackout' opener against Temple
Vanderbilt football opens a new era under first-year coach Derek Mason on Aug. 28 against Temple and to commemorate the special occasion, the Commodores will debut a new helmet.
It appears a long-rumored matte black lid could make its first appearance in Nashville considering Vanderbilt’s promoting its opener as its ‘Blackout’ game, but the university’s keeping its lips sealed on the exact style.
The addition will be the Commodores’ fourth helmet option on gamedays joining their gold, white and black with gold speckle shells.
Mason dropped a tease Saturday afternoon:
Had a great 1st meeting with our Unity Council yesterday. Had to let them in on the secret. Be on the lookout! #AD pic.twitter.com/MPgLnEMFMi

“We think that this is a wonderful opportunity to unite our fans as we start the season,” Mason said in the university’s ‘Blackout’ release. “I can’t wait to look up into the stands and see the seats filled with Commodore fans wearing black.”
