After weathering a storm of running back losses in the spring, the Crimson Tide are right back in the storm. On Wednesday, the school announced that freshman running back DeSherrius Flowers, an early enrollee this spring, will not enroll for the fall semester.

The school discovered an eligibility issue with the freshman, which will prevent him from enrolling for the fall.

Alabama also announced that sophomore defensive back Jonathan Cook has left the team for undisclosed reasons.

The Crimson Tide are now down to three scholarship running backs. Derrick Henry is slated to receive the bulk of carries, while senior Kenyan Drake is coming off of a broken leg. Freshman Damien Harris, the top-rated RB recruit in the class of 2015, will now be counted on to shoulder a much larger load than initially anticipated. Redshirt freshman Ronnie Clark, who split time between defensive back and running back in spring, could now be counted on as a contributor in the offensive backfield.

As a refresher, Alabama lost Altee Tenpenny to transfer in the spring, Bo Scarbrough tore his ACL and will more than likely miss the entire season and Tyren Jones was dismissed after getting arrested while already suspended indefinitely.

This is the second year in a row that a touted Alabama running back had eligibility issues that kept him off the field. Last year, Scarbrough didn’t qualify and sat out the season, joining the team during bowl practices.
