Alabama got off to a slow start against Western Carolina, and it was made worse when superstar receiver Amari Cooper left the game with a knee injury after Alabama’s first drive. He returned to the sideline a few moments later and was shown on the broadcast with his helmet off.

Blake Sims hit Cooper on a corner route on Alabama’s first drive. As Cooper ran toward the pylon, a Western Carolina defender’s helmet caught him in the knee. Cooper immediately grabbed his knee and limped off the field. After trying to test the knee on a stationary bike on the sideline, Cooper was shown limping to the locker room with a trainer, who was holding the junior’s helmet. The broadcast showed Cooper come jogging out of the tunnel a few moments later.

Cooper is one of the biggest keys to Alabama’s title hopes. He had 3 catches for 46 yards on the opening drive, giving him 90 catches and 1,349 yards on the season. The play on which Cooper was injured tied him for Alabama’s career catches record with 191.
